Community of Caring is a values-education program designed to integrate values and values discussions into schools and the community. Community of Caring believes that helping young people understand values helps them understand choices, and the consequences that result. It is a total approach to impressing on young people the importance of good citizenship and responsibility. The Community of Caring program uses a variety of creative activities to articulate and reinforce the following five core values which empower people to be responsible and caring members of the community:
Through training for teachers, parents, and community members, values discussions, student forums, parent involvement, and community service, the Community of Caring addresses destructive attitudes that often lead to early sexual involvement, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, delinquent behavior, and dropping out of school. Founded in 1982 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Community of Caring is a project of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation. The national Community of Caring organization can be reached at... 1325 G Street N.W. |
