Proposed Governance Structure for Community of Caring
Note: Community of Caring is already an active 501(c)(3) but this is a proposal to
change the governance structure to reflect the revised organization:
The Governance Committee proposes the following structure for Community of
Caring Monterey Peninsula:
- The Board of Directors will be made up of up to seven representatives to provide fiscal
and legal oversight of the organization including policy and employment considerations.
The Board members will represent various stakeholder groups as well as be geographically
diverse. This initial Board will be established for one year and will define the process
for Board selection for the 2nd year and beyond.
- The Network Advisory Council (NAC) - is made up of a broad base of participants focusing
on the operation of the organization and the community network as well as making policy
recommendations to the Board of Directors. The NAC includes any chairs of committees that
evolve from the Network as well as others interested in serving on the Council.
- The Community of Caring Network - includes everyone interested in Community of Caring.
Committees will be established from this group - some as standing committees, others ad
hoc.
Considerations of Governance Committee:
 |
| Board make-up - Representation
should reflect education, government, business, faith-based organization, community-based
organization, parents and seniors. |
 |
| The Board of Directors supervises
the organization for the sake of the network (It is the enabler for the network) |
 |
| Community of Caring must add value
rather than compete with other community based organizations. |
 |
| There must be a clear definition
of the roles & responsibility levels of Board of Directors and Network Advisory
Council. |
It
is the view of the Governance Committee that Community of Caring is primarily an
initiative but may encompass programmatic elements in support of the initiative and
development of the Community of Caring network
STAFFING and SUSTAINABILITY
To support the ongoing success and development of Community of Caring, it is essential
to develop funding opportunities for the organization's sustainability. The focus will be
on creating a staff position to coordinate the overall efforts of the network and maintain
the growing momentum of the organization. A number of options have potential merit.
Recommendations on this will be brought forward in the near future.
